The Supreme Court of Maldives delivered judgment in case SC-E/2024/001 on 8 July 2024. The full bench unanimously ruled in favour of the petitioner.
The court held that Article 24 of the Constitution protects journalists from governmental interference in the course of lawful newsgathering activities. The ruling does not preclude restrictions on speech that endangers national security or public order.

ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ ސުޕްރީމް ކޯޓުން SC-E/2024/001 ނަންބަރު މައްސަލައިގައި 2024 ޖުލައި 8 ގައި ހުކުމް ނެރެފިއެވެ. ފުރިހަމަ ބެންޗުން އިއްތިފާޤުން ދަޢުވާކުރި ފަރާތުގެ ކޮޅަށް ހުކުމް ކުރެއްވިއެވެ.
ޤާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 24 ވަނަ މާއްދާއިން ނޫސްވެރިން ޤާނޫނީ ގޮތުން ޚަބަރު ހޯދުމުގެ މަސައްކަތުގައި ސަރުކާރުގެ ނުފޫޒުން ރައްކާތެރިކޮށްދޭކަމަށް ކޯޓުން ކަނޑައެޅިއެވެ. ނަމަވެސް ޤައުމީ ސަލާމަތަށް ނުވަތަ ޢާންމު ނިޒާމަށް ނުރައްކާވާ ފަދަ ވާހަކަދެއްކުން ހުއްޓުވުމަށް އަޅާ ފިޔަވަޅުތަކަށް މި ހުކުމުން ހުރަހެއް ނާޅައެވެ.
ފުރިހަމަ ހުކުމް ކޭސް ރަޖިސްޓްރީގެ ޒަރީޢާއިން ލިބެން ހުންނާނެއެވެ.
