Closing ceremony of the Training of Trainers Seminar on Human Rights and Constitution

The closing ceremony of the Training of Trainers Seminar on Human Rights and Constitution was held at Supreme Court, today. This Seminar was organized by UNDP under the project, “Access to Justice and Human Rights, in collaboration with the Supreme Court of the Maldives. The consultant, Mr. Mark Andrew Jones was the instructor.

18 judges from the courts of Male’ participated in this seminar which was held from the 11th to 15th of April and all participants were awarded certificates in recognition of the same. The Chief Guest was Chief Justice Hon. Abdullah Saeed.  Apart from the Chief Justice, UNDP Officer in Charge Mr. Arun Kashyap, Chief Judicial Administrator Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed Manik of Department of Judicial Administration, Consultant for the (TOT) Mr, Mark Andrew and Project Manager Ms. Naaz Aminath from UNDP attended the ceremony.

The Chief Justice addressed the gathering emphasizing that protection of human rights was intrinsically intertwined with the independence of the judiciary. The consultant, Mr. Mark Andrew Jones also addressed the gathering.  A vote of thanks was conveyed by Justice Yoosuf Hussain of the Supreme Court.

Training of Trainers Seminar on Human Rights and Constitution is the first of the 2 phases of this project. During the second phase, the participants of this seminar will conduct similar training for other judges and magistrates in Male’ and the islands.
