Commonwealth Assessment Mission of the Commonwealth Secretariat Pays a Courtesy Call on the Chief Justice of the Republic of Maldivesކޮމަންވެލްތު އެސެސްމެންޓް ސްޓާފް ސެކްރެޓޭރިއެޓް މިޝަންގެ ފަރާތުން ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ އުއްތަމަ ފަނޑިޔާރުގެ އަރިހަށް އިޙްތިރާމްގެ ޒިޔާރަތެއް ކުރައްވައިފި

A delegation of the Commonwealth Secretariat Assessment Mission paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice of the Republic of Maldives.

The visit to the Supreme Court of the Maldives formed part of the Mission's official visit to the Maldives to conduct an assessment as an initial step in the Maldives' process of re-engagement as a member state of the Commonwealth.

The meeting was held at the Supreme Court of the Maldives at 2:30 p.m. today. In attendance from the Commonwealth Secretariat were Mr. Steven Malby, Head of Mission and Adviser, Office of Civil and Criminal Justice Reform; Ms. Clara Cole, Adviser, Election Support Section; Mr. Smeda Ekanayake, Adviser, Human Rights Unit; Mr. Dunstan Maina, Adviser, Public Sector Governance Unit; and Mr. Jonathan Cheng, Political Officer, Asia and Europe Division.

The delegation met with Hon. Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi, Chief Justice of the Republic of Maldives. Also in attendance were Justices of the Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Areef, Justice Adam Mohamed Abdulla, Justice Abdulla Didi, and Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed.

In addition, Dr. Hussain Faiz, Secretary General of the Supreme Court of the Maldives; Ustaz Ahmed Majid, Chancellor of the Judicial Academy; and Ms. Athika Ibrahim, Director, participated in the meeting.

The courtesy call provided an opportunity for constructive discussions on matters relating to the judiciary and the administration of justice in the Maldives, as well as broader issues relevant to institutional development and good governance. The meeting further reflected the continuing engagement between the Maldives and the Commonwealth Secretariat in support of strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law.
